CorSport: Absentees and no signings – Fonseca’s start at Milan less than ideal

Paulo Fonseca’s adventure at AC Milan has not started in the best way, a report has stated, and it is for reasons that are outside of his control.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that for the first time in years the team will begin preseason in a rather surreal climate, with the Curva Sud not present due to a protest against the lack of business done by the management.

Fonseca is expected at Casa Milan this morning where he will do his first press conference and then meet the management and take stock of the negotiations currently underway to bring in some new signings.

The former Lille boss would have expected to have some new signings as early as today, but the European Championship has proven to be quite the hindrance for the Rossoneri, who have been at a standstill so far as transfers are concerned.

Once the presser and the meetings are over, Fonseca will head to Milanello where he will kick off Milan’s first training session of the season at 17:00 CEST and even this will not be entirely as hoped due to the number of absentees.

When factoring in the U23 players that will be present and those who are deemed surplus to requirements, you can actually count on one hand the players who will be part of his team next season.

The first game of the new season is scheduled for 40 days from now. The squad has obvious gaps, and it is now up to the management to help the coach with the priority purchase of at least one forward, a midfielder with defensive characteristics, a right-back and a central defender.
