Leao has been crucial for Milan in the last few years, bagging 30 goals and 27 assists across 2021-22 and 2022-23. After renewing his contract in June, however, the winger has not lived up to the expectations this season.
Because the expectations are really high, as highlighted by Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), and this is understandable given the aforementioned numbers. The quality is there, as seen with the acrobatic goals against Roma and PSG, as well as the game as the captain against Verona.
Of course, not everything depends on Leao and Milan’s struggles can certainly be blamed on a lot of other factors. However, the singer’s form often correlates with the Rossoneri’s struggles, and the goal drought in the league must come to an end sooner rather than later.
He hasn’t scored in Serie A since September 23, when he found the back of the net against Verona. This clearly isn’t good enough for a player of Leao’s pedigree, even though he has made the difference in other ways (the assist vs. Empoli).
The goal drought must end, nevertheless, and hopefully already against Roma on Sunday evening.
