CorSport: Milan braced for tug-of-war as Liverpool offer €6m-a-year deal to star midfielder

Liverpool have once again been linked with a move for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie amid uncertainty over his contract situation.

This morning’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) writes that keeping Kessie is an absolute priority for a Milan, who cannot afford to lose another of their key players for nothing like they did with Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu.

The parties are in talks over the extension of his contract – currently set to expire in 2022 – but there are still no decisive updates regarding a meeting with his agent. Kessie is George Atangana’s best client, and that could push him to get the most out of the deal.

Liverpool’s interest seems to have come at the right time as the Reds have offered the player a contract of just over €6m net per season. This is the figure that the ‘President’ is asking for from Milan and Liverpool have promised it to him without any problems as long as he arrives as a free agent next June 2022.

Milan’s latest offer meanwhile is €5.5m-a-year and it could hit €6m, but only through bonuses. It is still not enough, and there is the danger of triggering a tug-of-war like the one with Mino Raiola over Donnarumma.
