Di Marzio: Deadline day loan move now off as Castillejo rejects Sampdoria move

Despite Sampdoria’s attempts to get a loan deal for Samu Castillejo over the line on deadline day, the player has rejected the idea of a loan move.

According to Di Marzio, Sampdoria have been trying to close the winter transfer window with a signing for the attacking department, and their failure to find an agreement with Sassuolo for Defrel convinced the Sampdoria management to try and land Castillejo.

The negotiation with Milan seemed to be successful with the Rossoneri accepting of the idea of loaning the Spaniard out, but the player’s will was decisive in the end as Castillejo said ‘no’ to Sampdoria.

Despite Samp’s attempt to convince Castillejo over the phone, the player is determined not to accept the loan and to remain at Milan until the end of the season. Given he would have linked up with ex-Milan boss Marco Giampaolo and he is not a part of the club’s plans, it is a surprise of sorts.
