Deschamps full of praise after Theo Hernandez’s France debut: “He showed a lot of good things”

France manager Didier Deschamps bestowed words of great praise for Milan left back Theo Hernandez after his debut last night.

It was a long time coming, but Theo finally broke his duck for his country in a senior game as he provided an assured performance in the slightly less familiar wing-back role in Les Bleus’ 2-0 victory over Finland in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Antoine Griezmann was the star of the show with the brace but Hernandez’s display did not go unnoticed by the former World Cup winner, who opted for a 3-4-1-2 formation, allowing the full back to show his full potential as part of the midfield four.

After the match, Deschamps praised Theo’s performance in a press conference (via Football Italia): “Theo has attacking abilities, despite the fact that Milan deploy him in the back four. As always, I try to put my players in the best position and in that role, he can exploit these skills.”

This was the 23-year-old’s first call up to the French senior squad.

“He’s fresh and in his first game, he showed a lot of good things,” said Deschamps.

The former Real Madrid full back has appeared 83 times for Milan since joining from Madrid – scoring 15 goals and assisting 14 times so far.
