Di Marzio: AC Milan make enquiries over young Benfica midfielder

AC Milan have reportedly begun enquiries over young Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes to gauge the possibility of a summer deal.

It is no secret that the Rossoneri leadership are desperate to bring in a midfielder this summer due to a number of departures, combined with the fact new boss Marco Giampaolo prefers a 4-3-1-2 formation.

A number of names have already been linked with a move to San Siro, including the likes of Lucas Torreira, Dani Ceballos, Jordan Veretout and most recently Ismail Bennacer – who looks set to join on a five-year deal.

Now, Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Milan have begun discussions over 20-year-old Benfica starlet Gedson Fernandes.

The Portugal international made 22 league appearances for Benfica in 2018-19, amassing two assists, and tends to play as a central midfielder.

He is described as a ‘very strong’ player with ‘great potential’, but Milan are wary that Benfica have just lost their prized asset in Joao Felix, and as such the operation is described as ‘difficult’.
