To describe Donnarumma’s current relationship with Milan as a fan base as ‘complicated’ would be an understatement. It started when he became the second-youngest goalkeeper ever to debut in Serie A when he was given the nod under Sinisa Mihajlovic aged 16 years and 242 days.
After being the starter for a few seasons and looking like potentially spending his career with the Rossoneri, he left on a free transfer to Paris and that still feels raw to a lot of Rossoneri supporters. However, the clean sheet in the 5-0 Champions League final win over Inter certainly helped a bit.
Raiola responds to Milan question
The agent Donnarumma – Enzo Raiola – spoke to Radio Sportiva about the future of the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, who is on a contract which expires in just a few weeks. His words were relayed by MilanPress.
“I have never ruled out interest from the top Italian clubs, but there has never been a negotiation, let’s see. He is still young, I have to ‘squeeze’ him for at least another ten years,” he said.
“At the moment, however, it is very difficult to see Donnarumma in the Italian league, I’m not just talking about numbers but also about the sporting project.
“In Italy, beyond Inter who reached the Champions League final, there are Milan and Juve who are struggling, they are in the process of reorganizing: these factors are fundamental.
“A return to Milan? Why not? We brought Pogba from Manchester United to Juve and then back to Juventus. There are no impossible things. Milan – even if they are not in their best moment – are still a very respectable club, which Gigio will always thank.
“They nurtured him and raised him, so Gigio will always have an important affection and gratitude towards the Rossoneri.”
