The Brazilian only signed last summer from Tottenham, and while he was initially a starter under Paulo Fonseca, his performances never convinced. He seemed to be heading for a winter exit to Galatasaray, before an injury put an abrupt halt to things.

Emerson had been out since the Champions League match on January 22 at San Siro against Girona, when he was forced to leave the pitch after just a few minutes from the kick-off due to a muscle tear. Now the healing process is complete, attention has turned to an exit again.

Emerson declares his preference

According to Gonzalo Tortosa – who works as a journalist for the Spanish source El Chiringuito – Emerson Royal has expressed his desire to return to Real Betis for the start of next season.

At the moment, there are no official negotiations, but what is certain is that the full-bac is one of the names that is not considered a part of the Rossoneri’s plans.

More specifically, the journalist writes: “Emerson Royal has told his entourage that he wants to return to Real Betis. Both parties hope to meet to see if it’s feasible. This is a complicated operation.

“There should be departures at Real Betis; several things need to be arranged. The player is clear about this.”
