MN: Evolution not revolution – Milan’s choice is targeted signings and continuity

While there is currently a lot of speculation surrounding the moves AC Milan might make under their new owners, plenty of it is destined to remain as white noise.

Despite the many difficulties that Milan battles last season with injuries, Covid cases, suspensions and above all serious refereeing errors, Stefano Pioli’s side deservedly won the Scudetto and the feeling is that a real platform has been built to go further from.

MilanNews writes how there has been an exponential improvement, both technically and mentally, in the squad and the directors with the help of Pioli seems to have created a team with the right mix of young, confident players and the experienced, more composed veterans.

Rather than opting for revolution, the feeling among Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara is that the way this group grows is through continuity. Junior Messias and Alessandro Florenzi, on loan respectively from Crotone and Roma last season, will be signed on a permanent basis.

New owners RedBird Capital and their founder Gerry Cardinale agree about the path of continuity but are also happy to support targeted new signings such as Divock Origi on a free transfer, Renato Sanches from Lille, potentially Sven Botman for the defence and a forward like Charles De Ketelaere and/or Noa Lang.

The goal is clear: to improve the team, especially in roles where there is a lack of quality, but without compromising what made it successful.
