Footmercato reported yesterday that Maignan – who was signed from Lille in the summer of 2021 for €16m – has been in discussion with Milan over extending his contract for over six months and yet no deal has been struck.
The French source added that Manchester United are admirers given that Erik ten Hag really likes his profile and ‘is not convinced by André Onana’, but they are not the only side who are watching developments.
Footmercato stated that Chelsea are keen as was already the case last summer, and Bayern Munich are tracking him because they are looking for a long-term successor to Manuel Neuer despite recently renewing him.
Fabrizio Romano has given an update regarding the rumours that Maignan is a target for United in view of the coming months, and he poured cold water on the idea.
“I wanted to start by clarifying some Manchester United transfer rumours involving a new goalkeeper signing, with some fans asking me about the reports linking them with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan,” Romano tells Caught Offside.
“Man United invested 55 million euros on Andre Onana in the summer. So there’s nothing else in terms of targets or negotiations. Zero.
“Man United are not working on a deal for Maignan and, also, the player is very happy at Milan. There’s really zero to this story at this stage.”
