There’s deep disappointment within the ranks at AC Milan following last night’s defeat at Lazio, and understandably so.

As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) write, it is a loss which perhaps definitively puts an end to their dream of overcoming Inter. Milan failed to capitalise on Saturday’s setback for Inter, who drew 1-1 with Atalanta, and instead saw the gap actually widen to eight points after the 1-0 loss to Lazio.
Too many mistakes
The Rossoneri’s performance was not that of a candidate to become champions. They demonstrated too few ideas and there were too many technical mistakes from Massimiliano Allegri’s team, who didn’t take to the pitch with the right attitude.
With this defeat, Milan not only see Inter slipping away, but now see their pursuers getting closer given that Napoli, Como, and Juventus all won this weekend. In attack, Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao once again disappointed, with the latter not taking his substitution well.
It should have been the game that would definitively reopen the title race, but it was a damp squib. It’s true that Lazio played perhaps their best game of the season, but the naive first-half approach (a high line leaving space to counter), a lack of grit and little creativity condemned Milan.
Allegri, post-match, reiterated that the real objective isn’t the Scudetto: “We made a lot of mistakes, now we’re resetting our focus. We must be realistic and focus on our goal, which is to return to the Champions League.” Now, even that might become a battle.
