Former Inter defender Marco Materazzi has thanked AC Milan for allowing Hakan Calhanoglu to cross the city divide, provoking the Rossoneri fans.
Calhanoglu decided not to renew his contract at the end of the 2020-21 season as Milan fell short in their pursuit of the Scudetto, but he caused a stir by choosing to cross the Navigli and join Inter, where he has become a key player.
He joined a Nerazzurri side who had just won the league title, but then he had to watch his old team-mates at Milan lift the Scudetto trophy back in May which made him the subject of quite a lot of ridicule.
Materazzi spoke during an interview with Inter TV after their 4-0 win at San Siro over Viktoria Plzen which secured their passage into the last 16 of the competition, with his comments relayed by our comments at SempreMilan.it.
“We have to thank the cousins who let him go and were talking. We have to thank Hakan, who is a boy who speaks little but does it with facts. He runs determined, he’s not afraid to tackle. He allowed Brozovic to recover calmly, without forcing. Players like him are welcome,” he said.
