Gazidis reveals what ‘surprised’ him about Pioli and why new signing Tomori is a ‘nightmare’

AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has sung the praises of head coach Stefano Pioli after a memorable season, as well as new permanent signing Fikayo Tomori.

Milan managed to achieve in the 2020-21 season what they hadn’t managed to since 2012-13: to finish in the Champions League places and secure a return to Europe’s elite club competition. The 2-0 win away against Atalanta in the final round also obtained a second-placed finish, the Rossoneri’s highest since the 2011-12 campaign.

Gazidis spoke to the microphones of Milan TV and was interviewed by Mauro Suma about the 2020-21 campaign, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews, and he was asked about his opinions on Pioli’s reign so far.

“For me Stefano is a great example. He lived through a period of great pressure, but he has always thought about the good of the club. He is a very profound man, I was surprised by his passion, trust in the group and his his closeness to each player,” he said.

Gazidis also spared a few words on Fikayo Tomori, who was officially unveiled as a permanent signing yesterday, signing a contract with the Rossoneri until 2025.

“For a striker, Tomori is a nightmare. Nothing is easy with him, it is not possible to beat him in speed or even by force.”
