GdS: Giroud keeps scoring for club and country as memorable 2022-23 continues

The Serie A season may have come to a close but Olivier Giroud’s scoring account remains open as he continues to net for country as well as club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport write how France head coach Didier Deschamps threw him into the fray in Faro against Gibraltar and Giroud responded by scoring goal number 54 for Les Bleus, the 24th of an excellent season on a personal level.

At almost 37 years old Giroud continues to score important goals for Milan and France. He closed the league season by scoring five goals in his last three games: a hat-trick against Sampdoria, a winner against Juve and one against Verona.

He punished Gibraltar too, scoring with his first real touch of the game. Milan are looking for another striker capable of playing with him and carrying on his legacy, but in the meantime he continues to score at the same rate as his Montpellier days.

As mentioned, Giroud has scored 24 goals this season: 18 with Milan and 6 with France, including 4 at the World Cup. He hasn’t scored more 2015-16 season with Arsenal, when he got 24 too.

In April he renewed his contract which is a sign of faith from Milan but also a recognition that he can continue to contribute at the highest level.
