The Portuguese winger missed out on the Rossoneri’s 1-2 loss against Napoli due to a one-game suspension. He was missed but not in the way many expected, as Stefano Pioli’s men created many chances and should have got at least a point.

In any case, as Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), the long unbeaten run came to an end and this has put Leao’s renewal in focus again. It’s one of the main priorities for Milan and that has been made clear by the management many times.

Leao is ‘in a hurry’ to sign a new contract, as the newspaper puts it, keen on putting an end to the rumours. Jorge Mendes has presented a request of €7m per year to Milan, who are willing to offer around €6m, and Chelsea are lurking in the background.

Perhaps the most complicated factor, though, is the €19m compensation that has to be paid to Sporting Lisbon. It was initially thought that Lille, Milan and Leao would take on the payment but the player is now asking the two clubs to step up.

In short, there are many factors to consider and the next three months will be decisive. Leao is happy to stay at Milan, but Chelsea have kept talks alive and will try again in January as the newspaper concludes.
