GdS: ‘More optimism’ as Milan prepare official offer for Maignan – the expected salary

Mike Maignan’s future has been heavily debated in the last months or so, with some reports suggesting a sale could be on the cards and others talking about a renewal. According to the latest updates, the latter is the most likely outcome

Maignan arrived at Milan in 2021 to replace Gigio Donnarumma, signing a deal until 2026, and he’s yet to be rewarded with a contract renewal. A pay rise is long overdue, especially if you look at the rest of the wage bill, and the goalkeeper’s career is now at a crossroads.

According to today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), negotiations are ongoing between Milan and Maignan over a renewal. New contacts took place recently and the parties have reached an advanced point, resulting in ‘more optimism’.

The negotiations are more advanced than those with Theo Hernandez, the newspaper adds, and Milan are now preparing an official offer. It’s possible that he could reach the levels of Rafael Leao, i.e. around €5m, which would be a significant pay rise considering the current €2.8m salary.

Having said all of those, as the newspaper concludes, Maignan is obsessed with winning and will also assess the situation at Milan before making his final decision.
