GdS: Pioli tries to help with tactical changes but Leao fires another blank against Sassuolo

Rafael Leao was given yet another opportunity to impress at San Siro on Wednesday night against Sassuolo, but failed to convince.

There were high hopes for Leao heading into the last two home games after he had scored the third goal in a 3-1 win away at Parma the weekend before last, breaking a goal drought that stretched back to early January.

Against Genoa on Sunday however he did not look like an expert centre-forward – in fact far from it – and La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes how the Portuguese forward again disappointed in the role of deputy to Ibrahimovic last night.

Pioli tried to help him by putting Ante Rebic closer to him and centralising Alexis Saelemaekers – in support of Calhanoglu – but it didn’t help much as the young striker wasted another opportunity to show off in what was a hugely damaging defeat that puts the team’s top four fate in serious doubt.
