It is clear that AC Milan have an infatuation with Mario Gila. However, the Spanish centre-back will not be an easy buy, despite their hopes.

In recent times, the defensive mercato has highlighted one man and one may only, Mario Gila. The Spaniard has been regularly linked with a move from Rome to Milano and there are several reasons for this.
First and foremost, he is a quality defender, comfortable with playing in a back three or a back four. Additionally, he has a fantastic knowledge of Serie A now, having played for Lazio since 2022.
Then, there is the connection with the man who brought him to the Laziali, Igli Tare. Since arriving at Casa Milan, the Albanian has been keen to reunite with the former Real Madrid man and this desire is now shared.
Issues with the Gila move
However, they are not keen enough to pay Lazio’s demands, it seems. In an editorial for Tuttomercatoweb, Niccolo Ceccarini spoke about the situation, as MilanNews relays.
“The final rush of the season is about to arrive, but AC Milan is already very active in the transfer market for next season. While the target in attack is a real goalscorer, in defence, the main need is a great central defender.
“Here, the Rossoneri seem to have broken the deadlock and are moving very concretely. The main target has become Gila, who, incidentally, is also highly sought after by Inter.
“The main problem is Lazio, in the sense that setting up negotiations with president Lotito is never easy. The asking price for the Spaniard, whose contract expires on June 30, 2027, is close to €30 million, also because 50% of the proceeds from his transfer go to Real Madrid.
“AC Milan wouldn’t want to exceed €20 million, so the matter is absolutely not simple.”
