Giornale: Talks over Donnarumma’s renewal stall as €2.5m gap seems unbridgeable

Everything has gone quiet regarding the renewal of Gianluigi Donnarumma as there is still a big distance between the parties, a report claims.

According to il Giornale (via MilanLive), Milan do not seem to be able to take the concrete steps needed to get Donnarumma to renew, even if the player is convinced about continuing with his boyhood club.

There seems to be an unbridgeable gap between offer and demand at the moment, as his agent Mino Raiola has asked for no less than €10m net per season, but Milan have stopped at €7.5m including bonuses. There is still ample room for negotiation, but if the distances remained such it would be difficult to find an agreement halfway.

The request for €10m – particularly given the economic moment football is going through due to Covid – appears to be a provocation rather than a real desire. Donnarumma meanwhile does not comment on his renewal, with no hint of his future, of his desire to stay at Milanello or change clubs. The goalkeeper is rightly focused on the next two goals: the Champions League with Milan and the European Championships with the national team.
