Giroud forced to work overtime for Milan – his fifth consecutive start

Olivier Giroud is expected to play from the first minute in AC Milan’s clash against Sampdoria tonight. Divock Origi is suffering from muscle fatigue and will this miss out, resulting in this ‘late’ change.

Giroud played 57 minutes against RB Salzburg on Tuesday and he also played 72 minutes against Inter on Saturday. If you zoom out further, it’s certainly clear that starting Giroud tonight is far from ideal.

In fact, tonight will be the Frenchman’s fifth consecutive start for the Rossoneri, which at the age of 35 will take its toll eventually. He’s the only striker Stefano Pioli has available for the game, and it’s possible that Charles De Ketelaere could be used as the CF mid-game.

In any case, the injuries of Ante Rebic and Divock Origi have highlighted a serious problem for Milan and we can only hope that they will be able to ride the storm. Luckily, there will be an international break after next weekend’s games.
