GdS: Giroud to be rewarded by Milan with pay rise as renewal moves closer

AC Milan are expected to find an agreement with Rafael Leao over the extension of his contract that should see him net a small pay rise too, a report claims.

This morning’s La Gazzetta dello Sport writes that ‘Giroud made Milan rich and Milan will make Giroud even richer’. The Frenchman arrived in the summer of 2021 for €1m and he has more than repaid that, scoring crucial goals to fire the team to the Scudetto.

Today he is leading the group towards a Champions League battle and also a two-legged last 16 clash against Spurs, and he will continue to be a leader with the Rossoneri next season too.

He scored 17 goals in the first season and is on six this year, but his numbers and leadership have convinced the club to bet on him again. Not only that, but they believe a reward is needed for his services to the team, so his new deal should see him go from €3.2m net per season today to €3.7m, excluding bonuses.

Yesterday’s meeting between the Rossoneri management and the player’s agent, Michael Manuello, was positive and the parties will meet again to resolve the final details. There isn’t another appointment scheduled yet, but the feeling is that it will be the decisive one.

Giroud has not been brilliant so far in 2023 but hopes he can repeat the second half of last season when he scored decisive goals  (brace in the derby and against Sassuolo, the winner against Napoli, the equaliser at Lazio) which allowed Milan to win the league.
