Intermediary explains why Milan decided not to move for Napoli star Kvaratskhelia

AC Milan decided against making a concrete move for Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, according to intermediary Cristian Zaccardo.

Calciomercato.com reported some background on the Georgian’s arrival at Napoli recently, with their sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli strongly believing that he could replace the huge gap left by Lorenzo Insigne’s exit.

He arrived from Dinamo Batumi for €10m, but Milan – back in the summer of 2020 – tested the ground with his entourage without launching a concrete bid to sign him. Napoli believed in him and now they are enjoying watching a talent take off, with eight goal contributions in 10 appearances so far this season.

Former Milan defender Zaccardo had a role in the deal that saw Kvaratskhelia go to Italy as he was an intermediary in the operation, and he revealed some background on how he ended up at Napoli.

“The staff of Giuntoli and Micheli had intuition and courage, with the support of the vice president Edoardo De Laurentiis. Napoli were skilled and timely: there was a risk that the Premier League would set its sights on Khvicha, who has also been in evidence with the Georgian national team for at least a couple of years,” he said (via MilanLive).

“I only followed the Neapolitan story, but the feeling is that the other big clubs with Leao and Chiesa felt they were okay, for example.”
