Vincenzo Italiano saw success last week against AC Milan, but in the future, he could be delivering it for them.

With a sporting director now through the door, we can begin looking beyond that role, as there is now some form of structure. Of course, though, the renovation project is not over, and a head coach is next on the agenda.

As Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes, interviews will take place next week over the vacancy, with three ideas on the table (two of them currently have jobs). Included in that list is Italiano, who has been in the shadows in recent times. However, his time in the Milan spotlight might be now.

To renew or not to renew?

Yesterday, the coach had a meeting with Bologna about his current situation, considering renewal talks are expected after winning the Coppa Italia. In the Rossoneri’s mind, the ideal was uncertainty over his future.

Instead, the report states that there was an idea expressed about staying at the club. Of course, things can change, but an extension on a contract which runs until next summer would be a clear indication of his thinking.

For Bologna, there is already confidence and hope that he will remain for some time yet.

The offer on the table

The idea for both parties now is a renewal, rather than entering next season with only 12 months left on his current deal. So, a 2028 renewal is entirely possible, something that would satisfy the coach on duration, whilst also bringing a deserved pay increase.

A pay increase which would take his pay to €2.5 million, if not €3m, big figures, but deserved after the work which he has done in such a short time. Understandably, the Rossoblue remain quite optimistic about their position.

However, the Rossoneri are sitting and waiting. In fact, they would be able to offer the same contract to the Italian, but the idea is that a ‘richer’ contract would be waiting in Milano, also with a three-year term, if not longer.

Milan’s alternatives

Milan like the coach for many reasons, largely because his ideologies match with the brand of football that the Diavolo want to play, whilst also being a winner. However, if things do not work out, there are other options on the table. Those, at present, are Massimiliano Allegri and Roberto De Zerbi.
