Longo: Gimenez the Plan B as Milan continue to push for Zirkzee – the latest

AC Milan are working hard to secure a striker ahead of next season and Joshua Zirkzee remains at the top of their wish list. According to a report, the Rossoneri will attempt to reach an agreement in principle before July.

Olivier Giroud has officially left the club and a new striker is thus needed to compete with Inter next season. Several players have been linked with Milan in recent months but Zirkzee has been mentioned more than others, at the top of the wish list.

According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Zirkzee is indeed the priority and the €40m release clause is within reach. The big problem is agent commission, though, with talk of as much as €15m which is too hefty.

Milan will attempt to lower the commission and secure an agreement in principle ahead of July 1st, when the release clause will become active. Santiago Gimenez is one of the alternatives for Milan but his arrival wouldn’t be cheaper either, with Feyenoord asking for €50m.

Atletico Madrid and Napoli have also expressed an interest in Gimenez, so Milan will have to keep a close eye on the situation. In any case, Zirkzee remains the priority and the Rossoneri will only turn to a Plan B when needed.
