The stadium saga took another turn yesterday as the Undersecretary for Culture, Vittorio Sgarbi, made it clear that he’s ready to stop the demolition of San Siro if it gets voted through. This even forced Milan mayor Beppe Sala to write a letter to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (read here).
In short, the situation is beyond bizarre and in his latest column for MilanNews, Andre Longoni shared his words on the situation. He stated that Milan should look towards Sesto San Giovanni immediately to avoid more delays
“Stadium chapter: the umpteenth unhappy statement of the mayor of Milan Sala angered everyone. Everything has now become a police issue at the national level. In short, after years, it’s total chaos.
“We wonder what else is needed to start a parallel process in Sesto San Giovanni: a solution that would find the consensus of the vast majority of the Rossoneri people, literally fed up with the ostracism of the Milan council on the issue. The stadium is essential to enter a new era and significantly raise investments,” he stated.
For those unaware, Sesto isn’t under the jurisdiction of the Milan council due to its location but there are still great connections, mainly with the metro. Therefore, it’s a great area to build a stadium and Milan have been evaluating the area for a long time.
