Mediaset: Milan to go all-in for €12m man after Buongiorno blow

AC Milan’s chase for their primary defensive target seems to be over, and as a result, a journalist has claimed that they will now go ‘all in’ for another of their targets.

With Urbano Cairo making a January move for Alessandro Buongiorno near impossible, Milan will have to turn to other options, at least for the time being, with a future move not out of the question, given the Italian defender did not turn the club down.

As a result, the Rossoneri will now pursue different avenues for a central defender, with Stefano Pioli confirming that the club is looking to add another defender to the roster in his pre-match interview.

“Yes, yes, the choices we want to make in this market won’t change: the club is working. There are still two weeks.”

It is understandable why reinforcements are needed, though. Reports suggest that Pioli will be without three central defenders for some time.

Malick Thiaw will not return until the end of February, Fikayo Tomori will return shortly after, but Pierre Kalulu will be absent for at least another month, with a return in late March possible but unlikely.

SportsMediaset journalist Claudio Raimondi spoke about the chances of a defensive arrival and who they may target, and MilanNews relayed his words.

Who are you expecting the new defender to be?

“Milan’s defender will not be Buongiorno. Cairo won’t sell him, but it could be a future operation. Milan, therefore, will go all in for Brassier, with Brest resisting and still asking for 12 million euros for the French centre-back.

“Milan, however, hopes that time will play in their favour and that there could be a discount that would allow them to close the deal at around €8 million.”
