TMW writes that Milan may have more difficulty than expected in their attempts to close the renewal of Bennacer, who is absolutely vital to Stefano Pioli’s tactical setup and has stepped up this season after the departure of Franck Kessie.

The Algerian midfielder has been targeted by many top European clubs after they watched his development with the Rossoneri since he joined from Empoli back in 2019, and a club has now acted on that interest.

Milan want to extend Bennacer’s current deal – which expires in June 2024 – by agreeing an extension worth €3.5m net per year including bonuses. The problem is that there is a verbal proposal on the table by a Premier League club worth around €4m per year plus bonuses.

There is therefore a distance that must be bridged, though there will be new contacts in the coming weeks alongside the negotiations with Rafael Leao.
