AC Milan are still being linked with a move for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca by La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claims that there is a strategy in mind.
The paper claims that what filters from the club suggests the centre-forward department of Olivier Giroud, Divock Origi (who is a done deal), Zlatan Ibrahimovic – when he returns from injury – and Ante Rebic is enough to head into the 2022-23 season with.
There are unknowns among this though as Origi is not a scoring machine and has been a bench player for basically his entire time at Liverpool, while the condition in which Ibrahimovic returns in January remains to be seen.
That is why another striker could serve the squad and the idea of the management remains Gianluca Scamacca. The Rossoneri can offer the Champions League and the club’s strategy of not putting him publicly at the top of priorities serves at the same time to avoid auctions.
Scamacca is young, does not yet cost an amount that is out of reach and has large margins to grow. He would also serve as a home-grown player for the UEFA and Serie A squad list regulations, while there is a certain charm about the fact he should lead the front line for national team as well in years to come.
The price set by Sassuolo is €40m and Milan must open their wallet if they are to sign other targets like Sven Botman, Renato Sanches, Charles De Ketelaere, Noa Lang and Nicolo Zaniolo, but there are other solutions.
Milan might have an advantage over a club like PSG – who are also keen on Scamacca – by offering certain counterparts such as Daniel Maldini or Lorenzo Colombo. In the meantime the Neroverdi have signed Agustin Alvarez from Peñarol, who could well be Scamacca’s successor.
