According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), the plan is to sign a promising young central defender in addition to a ready-to-use player in that role. One name that Milan are very keen on is Tiago Gabriel, who is having an excellent season in a struggling Lecce side.
Serious interest
Milan clearly like what they have seen from the Portuguese defender, who has already been viewed on several occasions by scouts that gave their approval. In recent weeks, the Rossoneri executives have also initiated contact with Gabriel’s agents too.
He is described as a ‘major target’ by the paper. However, there is a major obstacle to overcome: Lecce’s high asking price, starting with a €30m valuation, after yet another winning bet from the Giallorossi general manager Pantaleo Corvino.
It won’t be easy to convince the Apulian club to lower their demands, especially since Milan are not the only club pursuing the 21-year-old. Brentford are ready to try again after a failed attempt in January, when they offered €17m plus €3m in bonuses.
Nottingham Forest have also inquired in recent days, sending a scout on Monday to watch him live in the match against Fiorentina. So, it seems as though the main competition to overcome is from the Premier League.
