Maldini remains tight-lipped on Milan sale, admits Ibrahimovic injuries ‘a problem for us’

Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has opened up on future plans for the Rossoneri ahead of a crucial home clash against Genoa, which he cited as a must-win game.

With Inter beating Spezia to go top of Serie A on Friday evening before Milan took to the field, pressure is on the Rossoneri to respond and reclaim top spot, in a tight race for the Scudetto.

Maldini spoke to DAZN before kick-off (quoted by MilanNews), addressing a number of key issues that go beyond the current season. One being Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was again absent from the squad.

“Ibra’s prolonged absence is a problem for us,” He admitted, but maintained that not signing an attacker in January was the correct call: “There was no availability to intervene in attack in January. We felt strong.”

A number of other issues were also discussed, such as:

Rumours about a sale of the club: “I know little, it is normal that in the future of Milan there may also be a sale. I don’t know when that moment will be. With a few gameweeks to go, I think it is in everyone’s interest to try to win this championship. We also have the semi-final of the Coppa Italia to play”.

The pressure of winning Serie A: “We don’t know the real motivation. There is probably a bit of tension that these guys are not used to. Few have fought to win a championship.”

Maldini also remained quiet when asked about the potential signing of Divock Origi, again insisting that the club is only focused on the current season for the moment.
