There are still no certainties surrounding the new stadium project despite the efforts of AC Milan and Inter to comply with everything thrown their way.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) this morning, Milan and Inter had received the order from the City Council after the whole process of the public debate for the stadium to increase to 70,000 spectators, to not raise the price of tickets and to increase the green areas.
The last step was the resolution of the Council which has not yet arrived and seems to be very far from happening. The biggest problem is in fact related to the constraint that the government – in particular the undersecretary for culture Vittorio Sgarbi – wants to place on the San Siro stadium.
To this, a monumental constraint could also be added which is activated after 24 years, or in 2024 in the case of the San Siro. The Government therefore do not want to tear down San Siro while Milan and Inter, as usual, can do nothing but wait.
Milan and Inter are seriously beginning to think that their work in recent years is being reduced to smoke and are beginning to evaluate the various other plans, with the most credible at the moment being a move to Sesto San Giovanni.
The mayor of the region has already said he would welcome the clubs, while the former Falck industrial area would be the ideal spot to build the new stadium for Milan or Inter, or both together. The two clubs feel that they have wasted too much time behind the bureaucratic delays of Milan and beyond and need a new, modern facility that can implement revenues and increase competitiveness at a European level.
It is not yet clear whether they would keep the Cathedral project and if they would in fact build together, but in recent months it was above all Milan that considered Sesto as a possible option. Time is running out for everyone and a decisive turning point is expected in the coming weeks.
