MN: Milan made more than one attempt to sign Benjamin Sesko – the background

AC Milan tried to sign striker Benjamin Sesko and they might now regret having missed out on his, a report has revealed.

According to MilanNews, the Rossoneri first attempted to land Sesko back when he was playing for Domzale in his native Slovenia back in 2019. A negotiation was started but ultimately Red Bull Salzburg came in with a €2.5m bid plus bonuses which made it impossible for Milan to continue the negotiations for the player.

Milan had been eyeing the 19-year-old for some time after that too, also having some meetings with his entourage in the summer window as the agent of the player – Elvis Basanovic – confirmed on July 2nd: “I talked to Paolo Maldini about many things. Obviously the name Benjamin Sesko also came out. In the next five-six years, Sesko will be one of the best strikers Europe.”

However, Sesko ended up moving to RB Leipzig (another Red Bull club) for €24m with the stipulation that he will remain on loan for a year with the Austrian club. He faced Milan in the first round of the Champions League group stages and will do so again at San Siro.
