AC Milan are hoping to be able to announce the renewal of Rafael Leao’s contract in the coming weeks with a new offer having been launched, a report claims.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Leao ‘s holidays are coming to an end and – after his efforts of the World Cup in Qatar – he is enjoying the last remnants of rest before rejoining the rest of his team-mates in training.
Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will have new meetings with Leao’s entourage starting after the Christmas holidays. In the new year, a meeting with Leao’s lawyer Ted Dimvula – with whom Milan are on good terms – a meeting to extend Leao’s contract is scheduled.
The club’s offer is €7m net per season until 2027, a salary that would be quadrupled compared to the current one that the former Lille man earns and one that would make Leao by far the highest earning player in the squad.
It is an exception to the rule which would not create problems inside the dressing room because everyone knows that Rafa is the match winner inside the squad and they want him to stay for as long as possible.
The biggest obstacle is the fine owed to Sporting CP. The Rossoneri want to help Leao in absorbing the costs of the €19.5m jointly owed to the Portuguese club and they will offer bonuses that can help him cover this expense at least in part.
In the background Chelsea and Manchester United have shown the most interest in signing the 23-year-old, but the stance from Milan remains the same: anyone that wants to buy him must pay over €100m.
