MN: Milan scouts see striker as ‘ideal’ but Enzo Fernandez ‘mistake’ must not be repeated

AC Milan’s scouts were among the first to arrive from Europe to take a look at striker Mateo Retegui in action, but they must avoid making the same mistake they did with Enzo Fernandez.

That is according to Pietro Mazzara’s latest column for MilanNews, as he reports that ‘Milan scouts arrived before the others’ to take a look at Retegui who is currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Juniors and has scored six goals in six games this season.

What the scouts have fed back about the 23-year-old is that his ‘characteristics are the ideal ones for modern football and what Pioli wants to do’. Tigre know about Milan’s interest, the player does too and in the summer he ‘will certainly leave Argentina’.

However, as often happens with the South American market the fee for Retegui’s is also a pie chart of percentages that would be owed to Tigre, Boca Juniors and a third club, but at the end of the season ‘the club Milan will have to deal with will be Tigre’.

Mazzara also states that he spoke with Tuttosport journalist Roberto Colombo – the leading Argentine football expert in Italy – and he mentioned that Milan ‘must not make the mistake made with Enzo Fernandez’.
