Theo’s deal expires in just over 12 months which means that a rather significant crossroads in his Milan future is upon us. Either the management must look to sell him this summer, or they risk seeing him walk away for free in 2026, without a renewal that is.
Two possible heirs
Tuttosport (via MilanNews) confirm that negotiations over a contract extension have been at a standstill for some time and the feeling is that the most likely scenario at the moment is the French full-back’s sale in the summer.
In the event of his departure, Milan already have two interesting profiles in mind to replace him. The first is Maxim De Cuyper of Club Brugge, a player that has impressed a lot this season and has been linked for months.
However, more recently the Rossoneri have also started to move for Junior Firpo, a player they sought in the past when he was at Barcelona. He would be available on a free transfer too, given his contract at Leeds United will soon expire.
Calciomercato.com meanwhile report that the idea of a move to Saudi Arabia is tempting Theo given the huge salary offer on the table. Milan, though, intend to sign a new left-back regardless of whether the former Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid player leaves or not.
They state that Firpo is back on Milan’s radar and there would be no transfer fee involved nor any squad list issue. He plays for the national team of the Dominican Republic, his native country, but has a Spanish passport and therefore would not occupy a slot reserved for non-EU players.
