Bild: Schalke reject Milan’s €6.5m bid for young star and decide not to sell

AC Milan’s plan to sign Schalke defender Malick Thiaw before the transfer window shuts is at risk of falling through, according to a report.

According to BILD in Germany, Schalke’s sporting director Rouven Schröder rejected the offer that arrived from the Rossoneri of €6.5m including bonuses linked to player and team objectives, which Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara hoped would be enough given the 2. Bundesliga side’s financial worries.

Only with a package of around €10m would the Gelsenkirchen club consider changing their mind and parting with Thiaw. Now it seems that Schröder has decided to keep the German U21 international – who is under contract until 2024 – so as not to jeopardise their chances of promotion.

From a sporting and a financial point of view it is of paramount importance that Schalke get back into the top flight of German football again, having suffered a catastrophic relegation last season.
