MN: From sales to potential signings – two hypotheses emerge for Milan’s January window

AC Milan are not expected to make any big splashes in the January transfer window despite the possibility they could still be right in the Scudetto fight, a report claims.

MilanNews have given an update on Milan’s plans for the winter transfer window, starting by confirming that the squad may need some fine tuning first with players such as Andrea Conti and Samu Castillejo deemed to be outside of the plans.

Regarding the incoming market, a lot will depend on head coach Stefano Pioli’s physical and technical needs. With the African Cup of Nations coming up in January – which means Kessie, Bennacer and Ballo-Touré will be gone for at least 15-20 days – it seemed obvious that some intervention in the market would be needed.

However, the report mentions that directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara want to make purchases only if strictly necessary. There are two hypotheses therefore: the first is signings based on sales, and the second is to wait for market opportunities.
