MN: A €40m investment that continues to disappoint – Paqueta’s future under the microscope

The future of AC Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta appears to be completely up in the air as he heads towards another rejection, a report claims.

He arrived from Flamengo last January with great expectation on his shoulders, but the Brazilian has faded into the background amid rumours in the winter market that he is struggling with life off the field.

As MilanNews notes, in recent weeks Paquetà was included among the who had returned to Milanello with good fitness levels. He scored a brace in an intra-squad friendly and started against Juventus, but he did not pass the test.

Now, the €40million invested begins to weigh heavy on the minds of the management, and the fact he looks set to miss out on a spot in the starting XI for the trip to Lecce – due to Samu Castillejo’s return and the preference of Bonaventura – speaks volumes.

Paquetà was one step away from leaving Milan in January, which suggests that Milan and the player had already given up. With twelve games anything can happen, but even if the 22-year-old were to recover slightly it is hard to see his future in red and black.

What happens with Paqueta rests firmly on whether there is a coaching change and just who the next head coach might be, with Ralf Rangnick the strongest linked.
