MN: Three set price tags and two unknowns – the latest on Milan’s striker pursuit

AC Milan are looking to sign a striker in the summer and several names have already been linked with the club. As highlighted by a report, though, five targets are considered more ‘concrete’.

Olivier Giroud could leave Milan at the end of the season as the MLS side LAFC has approached the Frenchman. At the age of 37, turning 38 in September this year, it could be the striker’s last chance for a new adventure and he seems very tempted.

As highlighted by MilanNews, Milan have identified five key targets for the No.9 role: Joshua Zirkzee, Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyökeres, Santiago Jimenez and Jonathan David. For the first three, the price tags have already been set ahead of the summer.

Starting with Zirkzee, it has been a tremendous season for him with Bologna and his release clause is sey ay €40m. Since Bayern Munich will be entitled to a good chunk of the proceeds from a sale, the Rossoblu will do their best to raise the price tag, but this is the set base.

Benjamin Sesko has an even higher price, with his release clause set at €50m, and Leipzig will likely not budge from this. At the age of 20, he has already established himself as a top striker and his characteristics make him the perfect replacement for Olivier Giroud.

Finally, as far as the set-price players go, Viktor Gyökeres is the most expensive as Sporting landed on a €100m release clause when they signed him. He has 36 goals and 14 assists this season, attracting the interest of several big clubs. He could probably leave for less than the release clause, but it won’t be far off.

Moving on to the unknowns, or the wildcards if you like, Jonathan David had a tough start to the season with Lille but has since recovered. He now has 22 goals and 7 assists in all competitions, but his contract will expire in 2025 and this has inevitably lowered his price tag. For around €30m, Milan could likely sign him.

Santiago Gimenez has impressed a lot with Feyenoord, currently on 24 goals and 5 assists, but he plays in a less prominent league and this is also reflected in the price tag. He has also just scored four goals since the start of the year, which could reduce the price tag further. Perhaps even cheaper than David.
