Napoli president De Laurentiis slams ‘headless’ UEFA ahead of Milan tie

After the League assembly earlier today, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis spoke to the reporters on the scene about the upcoming Milan clashes. He reiterated that they would have preferred a team from abroad.

In the space of 16 days, Milan and Napoli will face each other three times. It’s certainly a special situation and it will make two very interesting games in the Champions League. The league clash, of course, will take place this weekend.

Speaking to the reports present at the League assembly (via TMW), Napoli president De Laurentiis shared his thoughts on the clashes against Milan. He also confirmed that their star striker Victor Osimhen will be out for at least two weeks.

“Osimhen? He will be out for two weeks, we hope. Milan are a team skillfully lead by Maldini and Scaroni, as well as the ownership. These are games where any result could happen, you never know. They also have some players missing. I hope it will be a balanced and entertaining clash.

“Unfortunately, this is the result of a headless UEFA. Imagine if we had also faced each other in the Coppa Italia semi-finals. It’s ridiculous to play the same team three times. If you play in a European competition, you want to face European teams. Milan should have played against another European team and Napoli should have played against another European team,” he stated.

Milan will begin at home in the Champions League tie and that game is scheduled for April 13, with the return leg scheduled for six days later. This weekend’s league clash will give us a taste of how those two games could look.
