Napoli president sends clear message to his players: “Milan pay €96m in salaries”

With just four games remaining in the Serie A season, it seems AC Milan and Inter will be the ones fighting for the Scudetto. Napoli have also been in the running but their defeat to Empoli proved costly.

Milan managed to claim all three points against Lazio thanks to a late winner by Sandro Tonali, reaffirming their position in the Scudetto. And while Inter won the day before against Rome, Napoli gave away a 2-0 lead to Empoli and lost 2-3.

Napoli decided to send their players into a retreat and in an interview with Sky Italia (via MilanLive), club owner and president Aurelio De Laurentiis shared his thoughts on the situation. To prove his point, he mentioned Milan and their strategy.

“I made a calming speech and reaffirmed my confidence in the technical and medical staff. I said we have to fight, because I see opponents that are brighter and more prepared and it’s not acceptable. Milan pay €96 million in salaries and we pay €136 million…”

Indeed, Stefano Pioli has done a tremendous job with the squad he has. Not to say that he doesn’t have quality players, but the low amount they pay in salaries is somewhat remarkable and the management deserves praise for this.
