Journalist claims Milan are working on deal for €35m-rated Sheffield United star

AC Milan are advancing in talks over a deal to sign Sheffield United midfielder Vini Souza, according to a report from a journalist in England.

According to what Alan Nixon is reporting on his Patreon, Milan have moved to sign Souza from the Blades, who suffered relegation from the Premier League last season and are preparing for a push to get back up to the top flight.

Nixon states that Fulham were the team that had been pushing to try and land the Brazilian, but that it’s Milan who are now ‘working the hardest behind the scenes’ to sign the 25-year-old, who plays as a defensive midfielder.

Souza has a deal at Bramall Lane which runs until 2027 but it is widely expected that he will depart this summer. Nixon adds that Milan have an issue with their ‘foreign’ quotas – which we presume means the non-EU slots – but they hope Souza can get a Portuguese passport.

Milan were mentioned as suitors for Souza in a report from the same journalist a couple of weeks ago and he also claimed that Fulham had seen a £15m bid rejected for him, with £30m the figure that Sheffield United want to sell, which is around €35m.

Given that the Rossoneri have run into trouble in their pursuit of Youssouf Fofana because Monaco have set a similar asking price, it seems hard to imagine them spending so much on a player who had a mixed season, albeit in a team that really struggled.
