The first interesting point concerns the seeded teams, i.e. those drawn out into the last 16 stage automatically by virtue of their league placement last year. Milan, Inter, Fiorentina and Atalanta are on the left side, with Lazio, Roma, Juventus and Napoli on the right side.

Milan’s first opponent in the round of 16 will be one of Cagliari, Palermo, Udinese, LR Vicenza or Catanzaro. Meanwhile, Atalanta will play one of Venezia, Spezia, Cosenza or Sassuolo.

The Rossoneri will play whoever emerges from those five teams in the quarter-final stage if they were to win their first game, then Inter or Fiorentina would be the opponents in the semis, again presuming they win their games.

Milan will be hoping to do better than last season when they were beaten 1-0 after extra-time in the last 16 by 10-man Torino.
