Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be forced to withdraw from the Sweden squad for the Euros as his injury will require some weeks of recovery. This was announced by Milan today, following tests that were carried out today.
The 39-year-old left the game against Juventus after sustaining an issue to his knee, which has been bugging him as of late. Initial reports suggested that he could make it back for the Euros, but Milan have announced otherwise (via MilanNews).
“AC Milan announces that Zlatan Ibrahimović was visited in Milanello by Dr. Volker Musahl (UPMC Pittsburgh) today, following the recent sprain trauma of his left knee that occurred in Juventus-Milan. According to specialist indications, the player will be subjected to a six-week conservative treatment,” the statement reads.
The timeline means he could make a return on the 26th of June, the same day that the knockout phase of the Euros will begin. It’s not certain that Sweden will make it that far and throwing Ibrahimovic straight into the action might not be wise.
In other words, Euros is very much at risk for the striker but you cannot rule him out yet, as you never know with the Swede. Either way, it’s clear that he will miss the rest of the season.
