Official: Mattia Caldara joins Spezia on loan with option to buy deal

AC Milan have officially confirmed that Mattia Caldara has joined Spezia Calcio on loan with an option to make the deal permanent.

With a statement on their official website, Milan confirmed that Caldara has joined Spezia on an initial loan deal, with the Ligurian club having the option to make the deal permanent in summer 2023. The club also went on record as wishing Caldara all the best for the coming season.

Back in 2018, Caldara was deemed to be one of the best defensive talents in Italy, but he never kicked on with the Rossoneri after joining from Juventus, though a large part of that is down to injuries.

The last match that he played was on 24 April 2019, the 1-0 Coppa Italia semi-final second leg defeat against Lazio. He ended up amassing just 65 minutes of game time, with loan spells to Atalanta and Venezia following, both of whom decided not to buy him.
