Milan headed south to the Maradona knowing that only a win would keep the pressure up on Inter after they put five goals past Roma at San Siro on Sunday night, and yet they were unable to muster even a single goal of their own in a 1-0 defeat to Napoli.

With 11 minutes left in the game, the sucker punch came as Napoli took the lead through Matteo Politano. A cross was flicked on by the back-peddling Koni De Winter, and the Italian took advantage with a finish on the volley from a tight angle past Maignan.

‘We need to create even more’

Pavlovic spoke to DAZN after the final whistle at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to give his thoughts on a tight match but ultimately a disappointing one, and his comments are via MilanNews.

What could you have done better on the goal you conceded?

“We all wanted to come here and get three points and stay close to Inter. The game was slow, we didn’t have many chances. In the end, they scored.”

Are you worried about the table now?

“We lost second place, but we’re still in a good position to reach our goal. We need to stay focused on ourselves; next week we have the chance to get another three points.”

You run forward a lot, is that what the manager asks?

“I think we need to create even more. We haven’t created much in recent games. And when we have chances to score, we need to shoot much quicker and be more focused.

“I also had a chance today, but I didn’t know whether to shoot or pass, and I wasted it. We need to be more focused in these situations.”
