Milan need to bounce back from the Supercoppa defeat to Napoli, as well as the 2-2 draw against Sassuolo in the league, and they will have the chance to do so today. Taking on Hellas Verona in front of a sold-out San Siro, you could definitely describe it as a must-win.
Massimiliano Allegri has made a couple of changes to the starting eleven, but the defence has stayed the same. One of the centre-backs, namely Strahinja Pavlovic, spoke to DAZN (via MilanNews) just a few minutes ago and shared his thoughts on the game.
On the game…
“It’s a very important match, the first after the Supercoppa defeat. We want to do everything we can to win. We know that Verona are a good team that use counter-attacks a lot. We need to be careful in defence and win duels.”
On the defending…
“We know that Verona’s two forwards are very quick and dangerous, so we must always remain 3 against 2 in defence.”
On Gabbia’s absence…
“We all know what to do. Matteo is a leader, but today we have De Winter, and we have to continue working together as always.”
Milan certainly need to improve at the back, but without Matteo Gabbia, that’s a very difficult task. A lot hinges on Koni De Winter stepping up as the other centre-backs arguably haven’t done too poorly lately.
