Pellegatti believes Milan have a ‘stronger’ squad after summer window and defends Messias signing

Journalist Carlo Pellegatti believes AC Milan have a stronger squad now than they did last season but the starting XI remains to be evaluated.

Milan have been one of the most active teams on the market as they started making moves back in June, with Mike Maignan, Fikayo Tomori, Sandro Tonali, Brahim Diaz, Fode Ballo-Toure, Olivier Giroud, Alessandro Florenzi, Pietro Pellegri and Tiemoue Bakayoko all joining, plus Chaka Traore, Yacine Adli and Messias to follow.

Speaking to Tutticonvocati’s microphones, the well-known journalist and Milan fan issued a reflection on the Rossoneri’s summer mercato, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“Milan are certainly stronger as a squad overall than last year, it is to be evaluated if they are stronger in the starting eleven,” he said.

Meanwhile Pellegatti also offered a defence of Junior Messias, who is likely to be the last signing of the window having undergone his medical this morning. Fans were ready to welcome Romain Faivre from Brest, but yesterday evening something changed and they turned to the 30-year-old Brazilian, which has provoked a mixed response.

“I hear several teasing about Junior Messias, just because at 24 he was not a professional footballer and was playing UISP amateur tournaments,” he said.

“Do you remember what Luciano Moggi said when Kakà arrived in Italy? Or Tacconi’s helicopters? Here, let’s forget it. Better to go on…”

In short, Pellegatti seems to believe in the qualities of Messias or at the very least believes he deserves a chance to see what he can do without prejudice.
