Journalist Carlo Pellegatti has explained the issues that AC Milan could face in the midst of former midfielder Sandro Tonali’s betting scandal.

Speaking to Radio Rossonera, Pellegatti shed some light on what the financial implications are for the Rossoneri should Tonali be found guilty of the betting offences that he is accused of.
Tonali, along with Nicolo Zaniolo, Nicolo Fagioli and Nicola Zalewski, has been accused of betting on illegal platforms and betting on football matches.
Tonali’s alleged offences relate to when he was playing for Milan, rather than his time at Newcastle which began when he left Milan in Summer 2023.
As Pellegatti explains, Milan could be set to miss out on potential performance-based bonuses from Newcastle if Tonali is suspended, but the club is cleared of any further problems.
“So, Milan only have one issue, an economic risk: They sold Tonali for a fee and then bonuses. You have to see the bonuses in that deal: if they are linked to Newcastle’s placements, fine. If to appearances or goals, there’s a risk that Milan won’t make money on it. That’s the only thing that could involve them economically, a loss of income. I don’t see anything else linking Milan to the Tonali issue,” he said.
The investigations into the four players and their alleged betting is ongoing.
