For a young defender like Leoni, there will always be a market. An 18-year-old defender who has already proven himself to be a solid option in Serie A, it is clear that his future is bright. However, where his future is remains unknown.
Milanese options
For Carlo Pellegatti, it seems that the future is rather clear, with a move to Milan possible. However, which side of the city is currently a mystery, as he stated on his YouTube channel earlier today, as relayed by Milan News.
“It’s the Milan-Inter Derby, and we’re talking about Giovanni Leoni. Born in 2006, 1.95 meters tall, one of the few prospects of a great player in the Italian championship. Rino Gattuso has already identified Giovanni Leoni, a Parma player, among the players he wants to see in his national team soon.
“Why are we talking about the Derby? Given our mutual knowledge, Chivu of Leoni, Leoni of Chivu, seemed like he was a fairly authoritative candidate for Inter’s next defence, but news from the last few hours speaks of Milan’s heavy interest in the defender.
“A Milan that wants to mix young players with experienced players, for a fair compromise of a cocktail that we hope can become a winner for the future. The cost of Giovanni Leoni is not low, let’s say 20 to 30 million euros: for a player born in 2006, it’s a lot.
“We have already seen him dominate on a physical and personality level. What is the situation? We have talked about a theoretical advantage for Inter but Milan, as per the latest news, is putting its head into it in a significant way.
“While Furlani and the owners are always careful to take out money for players that they consider money to lose when they are players, in my opinion wrongly, of 30-32 years old, instead the figure that Milan is having available for this season is continuing to rise and soon, by selling all the players that Milan wants to sell, we will reach 150 million, so 25-30 for Leoni is a good investment.
“While the Milan directors are reluctant to invest in players of a certain age, they are quite convinced that these are important investments in young players, let alone for a 2006.”
Considering there is a lot of interest in the 18-year-old, it would be interesting to see what both clubs would offer him. A starting role in Rossoneri is certainly possible, though, considering the defence this season has been regularly questioned.
